Editorial Note

Issue 33 has the latest update on the polio situation from Sainjargal Altanzul; an announcement shared by Diana Chang Blanc regarding a Supply Chain Management Course; and a reply from Eric Marie Jean Laurent to the query on applying MDVP to adjuvanted pandemic vaccines.

The Advisory Committee on Poliomyelitis Eradication (ACPE) held a special consultation in Geneva on 18-19 November. It evaluated the impact of the 2009 Programme of Work, including the Independent Evaluation of Major Barriers to Interrupting Poliovirus Transmission, reviewed the outcomes of the clinical trials on the new bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV) and looked closely at the epidemiological trends in the remaining four endemic countries, as well as the measures put in place to limit international spread of wild poliovirus. These discussions mark the start of a wide-ranging consultative process for the development of a new Programme of Work ... The full recommendations of the ACPE are available at www.polioeradication.org and will be published in the WHO Weekly Epidemiological Report in January.

The Institut Bioforce Développement announces the “Overview Course in Supply Chain Management of Health Commodities", a new training programme designed to help health sector professionals understand logistics management and commodity planning better. It also seeks to improve their ability to manage health commodities.

The training will be conducted in French and is intended for individuals who are responsible for planning, managing, monitoring or procuring commodity supply chains for HIV prevention and treatment, malaria, family planning or other national health programmes, in the public, NGO or private sector. The training will take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from the 22nd to the 27th of March 2010. It will extend over 6 days and will cost 1800 euros.

The training is being offered in partnership with the USAID-DELIVER project and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The manufacturer has confirmed that Focetria contains the regular amount of thimerosal.
 
However, at this stage, as we are still working on the review of the Summary of Product Characteristics and the stability aspects, we would recommend NOT to apply the MDVP policy until we get more information.
