Editorial Note

This week's issue includes the Technologies and Logistics Advisory Committee Briefing Report posted by Bruce Weniger, information from Omesh Bharti on a new, low-cost swine-flu detection kit developed by DRDO, and an announcement offering travel grants to participate in the Thirteenth Annual Conference on Vaccine Research. Additionally, Bernard Kaic has a question on MDVP related to the Focetria, MF59C.1 adjuvanted vaccine.

by Bruce Weniger

The report covers a summary presentation to the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization (http://www.who.int/immunization/sage/en/index.html), briefing them on the findings, conclusions, and recommendations from the September 2009 meeting of the Committee.

The topics discussed include:

    •   History and status of TLAC
    •   Out-of-the-Cold-Chain (OCC) deliberations
    •   Multi-Dose Vial Policy (MDVP) deliberations, and
    •   Other issues like VVM, vaccine freezing and auto-disabling syringes.

Thirteen national and international agencies and organizations will collaborate with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases in sponsoring the Thirteenth Annual Conference on Vaccine Research, April 26-28, 2010, at the Bethesda North Marriott & Conference Center Hotel, Bethesda, Maryland. The conference is the largest scientific forum devoted exclusively to the research and development of all vaccines and related technologies for prevention and treatment of disease through immunization. The conference brings together the diverse fields of human and veterinary vaccinology to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas and approaches among researchers otherwise focused on specific diseases or methods.
