The Government of India's Health Ministry is developing a software which will keep a thorough record of all health campaigns, including immunisation.

"The outcome of immunisation drives is not satisfactory. I asked my officers how they arrive at these figures and the reply was not very convincing. I have told them to have new software which will help us in getting the authentic figures," Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said.

In a recent study done by Rajesh, Anjali, Omesh and Vidya (see attachment), we could actually calculate the delay using the HMIS data.
Therefore it is important to use software to track immunisation as in our study it was found.

The Pakistan Immunization Programme is using the Vaccination Supplies Stock Management (VSSM) software. The software solves a lot of our problems related to arrival of vaccines batch-wise and distribution accordingly as per first expiry first out (FEFO) plicy of WHO and many more.

Dear Friends,

The real issue is over reporting and double counting. The wide disparities in reported and validated coverage call for linelist-based reporting sytems, which can lead to better accountability and remove duplicate entries.

Moroever, the individual beneficiary, rather than agregated data will enable tracking of timeliness of immunisation events and trigger reminders, and flag alarms.

Until our team did the immunisation timeliness and coverage evalaution study in Kangra (India), nobody realised that over three fourths of the imunisation events were delayed by over one month. Having real-time information in future will be more linked to timely response than retrospective realisations.

Hey Dr. Bharti, that sound's amazing! I wonder if we could develop something like that in Pakistan? What computer language/s are you guys using?

Mr. Taqi, can you tell me a little about the government's databse - I'm trying to develop one for my vaccination center as well as any information would be appreciated! Thanks!
