TechNet21 em Inglês, Espanhol, Francês e Português?
Veja abaixo todas as quatro línguas

Ten years ago when TechNet21 was new and it was based in Ottawa Canada where a  bilingual moderator in English and French, Dr. Claude LeTarte, was careful to maintain a balance between posting in English and French.  Over the years we have lost most of the postings in French to such an extent that TechNet21 is now almost entirely written in English.   This is disappointing since French is the most spoken international language in some of the poorest African countries and TechNet21 is no longer accessible to them.  Furthermore, and probably even more important, the Francophones are not as active as they might be in telling TechNet21 what they need to improve their immunizations services.

Then, last week I got a surprise.  There was a survey on the beta TechNet21 site about which language should be included, in addition to English.  Spanish was listed as the most important language to have available after English, followed by French, then Portuguese.

Now that the site is open to all, do you think French should be the next language to incorporate into TechNet21 because of the many French Speakers in West Africa (and elsewhere), or should Spanish be the priority language because of the many Spanish speakers in South America?

Whichever language is selected, translation remains expensive and time consuming.  Therefore we seek your opinions on the French, Spanish and Portuguese translations of this text that was written originally in English.  The translations into Spanish, French and Portuguese below were done by machine without corrections or alterations.

They are clearly not perfect translations, or even very good translations, but this is not the issue.

The issue is whether these translations are better than no translations for people who can’t read English, and more importantly are not willing to join the forum because they believe that their written English is not good enough.

Please tell us your thoughts and ideas which language should be added first to TechNet21.  Also do you accept machine translations for TechNet21?

Please reply in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, or any of the other 57 languages that can now be machine-translated.

Thank you.

Seja qual for o idioma selecionado, a tradução continua caro e demorado.

Obrigado.

Personally, I like the idea of machine translations (over no translation). I don't think its possible to do a poll with such a small sample size of beta reviewers, but this may be a good poll to do with technet users when the site goes live. It may also be nice to ask our colleagues who are NOT currently TechNet users what they think. Great idea, James!

From Claude LeTarte (sic) and sent to James by email:
"In the post entitled "TechNet21 in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese", there are a few things to correct. During my time as moderator, it was based in Québec, not Ottawa. (Just as a reminder, it was hosted in cooperation with the Centre de coopération internationale en santé et développement, Québec, Canada, and Université Laval provided Listserv services). Second thing, my name is Letarte, and not LaTarte. It is rather obvious that the French translation was not done by a native French speaker. If TechNet is ever going multilingual, I suggest that translations maintain the highest level of language."

In reply to our Moderator who asks in Russian: "And what about Russian?" My reply: Easy. more than 50 languages can be translated - anything from Afrkans to to Yiddish:

Technet used to have french

Technet used to be in french as well when it ran on the listserv but was discontinued. Would certainly be great if it went multi-lingual!
